| Let us begin by visiting Berlin through the city gates dating from when it was still a fortress: Brandenburg, in the Mitte district, is close to the Reichstag building, seat of the German parliament, which is admittedly one of the icons of German architecture. The island of museums - Museum Island – in the Spree River, houses five of the 180 museums of the city. One of the greatest archaeological museums of the world, the Pergamon Museum, is located here, as well as the Berlin Cathedral, which is very close. Considered the largest outdoor art gallery in the world, the East Side Gallery displays 1,316m of the Berlin Wall, still intact and full of graffiti by artists from 21 countries. The Mauerpark is one of the most popular parks. Divided in the past by the Berlin Wall, it hosts, every Sundays, a Flea Market where you can find everything. The bunkers, which are open for tours, are also very interesting to visit, once they were built during World War II used by the Nazi. The city doubled itself after the fall of the Berlin Wall, with two National Galleries, two zoos, 135 theatres and three opera houses. The entertainment lasts until the sunrise and suits every taste. With an unstoppable nightlife, Berlin has reinvented itself turning old warehouses and breweries into nocturnal spaces, such as the Kulturbrauerei, the Arena Club or Tresor Club. With over 5.000 bars and 6.800 brands of German beer, the Berlin International Beer Festival is held every August for three days, where more than 300 breweries offer about 2.000 beer varieties. |

Eating: what and where? |
|
|
The Turkish influence in the city, the largest community outside of Turkey, has led to the increase of the Kebab restaurants. Although there are numerous establishments dedicated to this delicacy, Berlin has its typical gastronomy, which includes their famous sausages, such as the Currywurst, the most famous of the city, as well as dishes including eels, sturgeon, wild boar shank, cooked pig hands and meatballs.

At Alexanderplatz you will find the tallest building in Berlin. The Berlin TV Tower (Fernsehturm) is 368 meters high and at the top the restaurant offers a panoramic view of the capital. Another famous tower is the Berlin former Radio Tower: the Berliner Funkturm, based on the Eiffel Tower, measures about 150 meters in height, has a restaurant located 55 metres above ground and a 126 meters high observation deck. Berlin has more bridges than Amsterdam and Venice, reaching up to 1700 bridges. It also has more museums than rainy days. Even though the vocabulary has about 12 to 16 thousand words, most Germans comprise up to 50 thousand words. A third of the capital consists of gardens, lakes, forests and parks.
