Places to visit
Puerta del Sol is the meeting point to start the discovery of the city, going straight to the Plaza Mayor. It’s a medieval square with almost 400 years where arcades and gateways survived over three fires and it, soon, will host a hotel belonging to Pestana group. Inescapable are the visits to Prado Museum, Thyssen-Bornesmiza Museum and Modern Art Reina Sofia Museum, placed along the kilometre separating Plaza Cibeles from Plaza de Atocha, where it is the train station which also deserves a visit. Surround yourself by tranquillity at Parque del Buen Retiro, the perfect place for sport, culture and recreation purposes, due to Palácio de Velázquez, Palácio de Cristal and Estanque Grande, where it’s possible to practice rowing. Another suggestion is the Templo de Debod, a nubian-egyptian architectural witness and unique in Spain. 15 minutes away from it walking is another place to be: Palácio Real and its gardens. To go out at night, try the Chueca district. Offering a wide variety for every taste, either gastronomic, with many restaurants and markets, either entertainment.

Eating: what and where?
“Tapear” is the biggest tradition of Madrid cuisine. You can find everywhere squids, potatoes tortilla, wild potatoes and chicken wings and they are always accompanied with beer or local wines. We recommend as well tasting typical dishes such as cocido madrileno or callos a la madrilena. Find out our suggestions.

Curiosities
Madrid is the capital with more hours of sunshine and the one living the most at night, due to the huge and wide offer of entertainment places, bars, discos, etc, spread by several districts in town. “La movida” born as an anti-cultural movement after Franco regime representing the economy and a new spanish identity revival, which was transposed to the street revealing a new freedom spirit. Did you knew that the Parque del Buen Retiro is the lung of the city and it hosts 15 thousand trees, among them the Cipreste Calvo, the oldest tree in town with more than 400 years.

Advices
Madrid can be visited during all year, but in the summer the average temperature can raise a lot, getting at 40º degrees Celsius in August and 9º degrees Celsius in December.  The weather is hot and dry, and it snows in the winter. The easiest way to know the town is taking the subway, with prices going from €1,5 to €2 if you chose a normal ticket. However, you can chose to buy a 10 trips ticket, costing €12,20 or a tourist ticket allowing to use all the public transports of the Community. For those arriving by airplane, you have to pay an airport surcharge of 3€. To discover museums and cultural places we advice the Madrid Card  (24, 48, 72 and or 120 hours) including entrance fees in 50 museums and a discount in stores and restaurants.
